Galata, the area around Istiklal
Caddesi  are full of charming
cafes and excellent restaurants,
many with tables outside.
Istiklal Caddesi & its side
streets-
-the Left Bank of
Istanbul -- are filled with
charming cafes, smart
restaurants, innumerable
bookstores, shops, cinemas
& the best music clubs in
town. The market at
Galatasaray sells wonderful
fresh fish, produce and even
pork products..
Sultanahmet  and the Covered Bazaar
are the tourist center of the city but off
the main avenues, you will find quiet
residential districts with corner groceries
side by side with Ottoman fountains and
you can enjoy inexpensive, fulling meals
at simple working men's restaurants as
well as the more touristic restaurants
along the main avenues.
The upscale Kabatas/Ayazpasa
district of the city is a short walk from
Taksim Square in a quiet, yet very
central and convenient area. The avenue
leading to Taksim is one of the most
beautiful in the city  lined with elegant
early 20th century  apartment buildings
and featuring a row of towering trees in
the center divider. There are small
groceries shops and a variety of cafes
and restaurants in this area.
