The guide book recommend staying in Sultanahmet but this area is much better as a base. We loved the artisan/arty feel of the Galata area which is more authentically local and less touristy than the other side of the bridge. And this apartment is right in the thick of it, close to almost any amenity you could want. It even has a jazz club opposite! The local restaurants are excellent value .. you can also go up to the smart looking Amemon Galata Hotel in the square just for a drink -- it's worth it for the view and surreal image of the Tower looming above. It's fun discovering the non-prescriptive touristy things to do and this place has lots of them. Colin & Rebecca (U.K.) Wonderful apartment in Glorya. Location is absolutely in the pulse. Found Istanbul a truly magical city. Loved the people; they were always so helpful. We will return Hamish, Sandy & Jamie (New Zealand), Sharon, Murray & Barb (Australia) With Galata Tower steps away and the famous shopping district down the road, Glorya Apartments have proven to have the best location. At night, walk in the back streets of Istiklal you will find exquisite dining in the open air. Had a splendid time on my stay here. The many restaurants and groceries close to Glorya made life easy and we enjoyed easy access to all the famous sights and lively Istiklal. Hafiz & Nani (Malaysia) Wonderful location. It’s just amazing to be next to the Tower. Mehmet (Turkey/U.K.) Loved the Galata area—quiet, close to everything via foot, tunnel or tramway. This place is so close to all you need for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Leila (U.S) The stay was fantastic—the location outstanding. Keith (Canada) Bereket has very comfortable flats in a great location, right in the middle of Istanbul with great access to all the sights but also in a quiet oasis amidst the bustle of the city. Shawkat family, U.K. Wonderful location. Having Galata Tower as a landmark meant we never got lost! Fenton family (U.S.) A very comfortable, convenient place to stay – shops, bars and trams all within easy reach. It is surprisingly quiet here except for the call to prayer from the nearby mosque. The flat has everything you might need. Thanks to Ann and her staff for creating these apartments -- so much better than staying in a hotel. Martin family (U.K.) What a great place for an introduction to Istanbul – wonderful location close to everything we needed. Nice kitchen but we didn’t need to use it once, so rich was the supply of restaurants close by! Hope it’s not too long until we’ll be back again. Jones family (New Zealand) Location, location, location. The old adage is true in Istanbul. Istanbul Holiday Apartments could not be in a better area. It is an traditional feeling neighborhood. So instead of feeling like you are in some tourist zone, you actually feel like you are living like a Turk. Several little markets provide most everything you will need - and most are open until very late at night. After just a few days, the shop keepers began treating me like a local even though all I could say in Turkish was "Hello", "Thank You" and point at what I wanted. You are half way between the old city and the new European Taksim area. So both are walkable and close. If I had stayed in the old city, at night I would have to find a way to get to the European side. And if I stayed near Taksim, I would always want to get away during the day to find the "old Istanbul" and have somewhat of a commute. At Galata Tower, I am right in the perfect sweet spot - close to both. If you enjoy walking, this is the ideal spot - you are pretty much able to walk to any of the principal destinations you will see in Lonely Planet's Istanbul Guide. (I never bothered with the tram or streetcar - much more fun to walk and sight see) Great little restaurants - this area is actually pretty bohemian and has a wealth of good restaurants all within a few blocks. Since you are close to the Galata Bridge (about a 20 minute walk) you can have great fresh fish. Since you are close to the start of Taksim (about a 20 minute walk) you have access to traditional Turkish or European restaurants. All in all, a great little find. Highly recommend. Tony (U.S.) The location is fabulous with easy access to Sultanahment and Istiklal. What a magical city! Jenny, Craig, Henry & Gabriel (U.S) We felt our stay in Istanbul was enhanced by the location ... not a carpet hawker in sight! The accommodation was perfect and we felt each day we were returning home rather than just a hotel room. With the Galata Tower outside our rooms, we never got confused as to where we were; that landmark was always visible . Betty & Helen (Canada/US) Terrific location. Loved having an apartment. We had planned to cook meals in but the restaurants we too good so we never did. Still it was good to have our own place to come home to. Try Nardis across the street--best jazz club in the city. Judy & Craig (Canada) The location is great because it is away from most tourist areas --so one isn't hassled --but close enough to everywhere that I could walk. Mika (US) Excellent location to all sights and amenities. Would love to come back. Norman & Janet (U.K.) Your beautiful apartments in a perfect location allowed us to have a fantastic stay in Istanbul. Aileen & Conor (Ireland) The apartments are in a great location. We’ve eaten out nearly every evening—there are dozens of places just a few steps away. The list of delights is endless. Rona & Gerry (Australia) It was the ideal location for us. Close to the sights. Close to the shops. Living in a historic neighborhood at the foot of Galata Tower—yet with every modern convenience. Noel-Orieta-Frederic (Australia) The location was perfect, close to everything while being in a real neighborhood outside the distractions of the tourist zone. Diane (US) Thanks again to Istanbul Holiday Apartments for keeping a place like this available for travellers on a temporary stay like us who wanted nothing less than to really experience what it is like to live like Turks in one of the greatest neighborhoods in Istanbul. Tom & Mina (U.S.) Glorya Deluxe View a great home base to explore Istanbul from ... and an easy landmark to aim for after getting lost wandering the streets! Thanks for creating such a comfortable space to call home in Istanbul. Dave & Jason (U.S.) What a great location! What a great apartment! The location is very convenient to a lot of shops and historic sites, just close enough but not right in the middle of Sultanahment -- a nice place to come to after a day of walking to relax and enjoy the view. Aslı (U.S.) and Hayri (Turkey) Wonderful apartment and neighborhood. It was wonderful being so close to the pedestrian avenue (Istiklal Caddesi). Robin & Terri (U.S.) It's very quiet too even though this is the center of Old Istanbul. Jean-Pierre (Luxembourg) Location was perfect. Luci & Dan (U.S.) The location is superb, in an old but vibrant neighborhood, in easy walking distance of Galata Bridge. Megan & Paul (UK) Many thanks for the lovely flat and kind assistance. Location, location, location. Lenk family (Israel) The apartments are perfectly sited for seeing the sights of Istanbul. Bullocke family (U.K.) This is a great neighborhood, everything we needed was close by. Charlesworth family (Australia) Good location. We don't think we would have had such a great time if we had stayed in Sultanahmet. Jacqueline (Malaysia) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend others to stay at Istanbul Holiday Apartments ... the location is ideal and quiet. Very good value for money.
